Airport transfers in Los Angeles

Four commercial airports serve this city, and the one you choose changes the day far more than the fare does.

The four Los Angeles airports

Los Angeles is the market where airport choice matters most and is thought about least. LAX has the flights; Burbank has the ease; John Wayne and Long Beach have the south. A visitor working in Pasadena who books LAX out of habit spends two hours on the ground that Burbank would have given back. We track every arrival against the flight number, meet inside the terminal by default, and will tell you before you book when a different airport is the better answer.

Los Angeles International (LAX)

A horseshoe of terminals built for a fraction of the traffic it now carries, with an upper and a lower roadway that behave completely differently by hour. Which door works for your terminal is genuine local knowledge rather than something a map will tell you. Most international arrivals clear customs at Tom Bradley, and Terminals 2 and 7 have customs halls too; either way we hold through customs rather than starting a clock against a queue.

Hollywood Burbank (BUR)

Small, close to the studios and by some distance the most pleasant airport in the region to be collected from — you walk off the aircraft and you are almost at the kerb. For anyone working in Burbank, Glendale, Pasadena or the Valley it beats LAX end to end even when the flight options are thinner.

  • Studio district
  • Valley advantage
  • Short arrivals walk

John Wayne (SNA) and Long Beach (LGB)

Orange County and Long Beach serve the south of the region and are frequently the right arrival point for Irvine, Newport Beach or the South Bay. From SNA into central Los Angeles is a real drive up the 405, so the airport should follow the destination rather than the fare. We cover both on the same per-route basis.

How we work the Los Angeles airports

Inside, not at the kerb

The LAX kerb is not a place to stand with luggage waiting for a car to appear. Our default is a chauffeur inside the arrivals hall with your name and the vehicle brought to you. At Burbank the kerb genuinely works and we will use it if you prefer; we tell you which is which rather than applying one rule everywhere.

  • Arrivals hall
  • Named meet
  • Airport-specific

Early landings and diversions

We track the tail number rather than the schedule, so an aircraft down forty minutes early is met early. Weather and fog divert Los Angeles traffic to Ontario and occasionally further; we cover those and re-plan before you have cleared the aircraft rather than after you have called.

From the Los Angeles airports into the city

Door to kerb, ordinary conditions. Los Angeles has no reliable off-peak: the left column means before about six in the morning or after about eight at night, and between those the right-hand number is the realistic one.

The figures below are genuinely quiet conditions, which on a weekday means before about six in the morning or after about eight at night; between those, the higher number is the realistic one. We would rather quote you an honest pickup time than a flattering one.

How Los Angeles airport transfers are priced

Every airport route is quoted per route and confirmed in writing before you travel, with no surge pricing at any hour. LAX carries an airport access fee, and your written quote includes it. Rates are set per market, so a Los Angeles quote reflects Los Angeles.

If your meetings are in the Valley or Pasadena and you have not yet booked the flight, ask us before you do. Arriving through Burbank instead of LAX can hand back an hour in each direction, and that is worth more than the fare difference.
