The San Diego venues we run to
During the largest conventions the Gaslamp closes to vehicles and hotel access moves to designated points. That is worth knowing before the week, not during it. San Diego’s convention calendar is the thing that transforms this city, and the largest shows fill every hotel from downtown to the north coast while turning the Gaslamp effectively pedestrian. Outside those weeks the venues here are among the easier we work anywhere, with real parking and sensible approaches. We stage clear, come forward on a call and plan convention weeks as operations rather than bookings.
Conventions, arenas and venues. The convention centre dominates the downtown calendar and the largest shows turn the Gaslamp effectively pedestrian.
Culture, dining and the region. Coastal, wine and cross-border work rounds out the market, and the border crossing needs arranging specifically.
San Diego Convention Center
Downtown waterfront
On the waterfront beside the Gaslamp, and during the largest shows the surrounding streets close and hotel access moves to designated loading points. We work from those and say so at booking rather than on the day. Outside show weeks the access is excellent.
Petco Park
East Village
In the East Village immediately beside the Gaslamp, well integrated into the district with garages around it and trolley service alongside. A game and a convention together fill downtown entirely. We collect from an agreed point east of the park.
Snapdragon Stadium
Mission Valley
In Mission Valley on the old stadium site, with substantial parking, trolley access and straightforward approaches from the freeways. Considerably easier to leave than most stadiums of its size. The constraint is volume onto the I-8 and the 163.
Balboa Park
Balboa Park
A very large park holding museums, theatres and the zoo, with several entrances and internal roads that are partly restricted. Evening events at the museums are common and each has its own access point. We confirm the venue within the park rather than the park itself.
San Diego Zoo
Balboa Park
Inside Balboa Park with its own large car park and a single main entrance that handles heavy family traffic through the middle of the day. Evening events here are common. The park approach roads queue at opening and at closing rather than throughout.
Civic Theatre
Downtown
On Third Avenue downtown in the Civic Center complex, with performances that end into an evening downtown that is already busy with Gaslamp traffic. The adjacent garage is the practical answer and we use it rather than the street.
Del Mar Racetrack
Del Mar
Up the coast at Del Mar, with a racing season through summer that fills the village and the coastal road for weeks. Opening day is the largest single movement in north county. We plan race days rather than quoting them and stage away from the main gates.
Torrey Pines Golf Course
La Jolla
On the clifftop beside the research mesa, a municipal course that hosts professional events which fill the surrounding roads for a week. Ordinary days are straightforward with easy access from North Torrey Pines Road. Tournament weeks are planned separately.
Getting to the San Diego venues
Door to venue, ordinary conditions. The right-hand column means an event night; a major convention week downtown is worse than that and planned separately.
| Route | Approx. distance | Off-peak | Allow on an event night |
|---|---|---|---|
| Downtown to the Convention Center | 1 mile | 5–10 min | 15–35 min |
| Downtown to Petco Park | 1 mile | 5–10 min | 20–40 min |
| Downtown to Snapdragon Stadium | 8 miles | 14–20 min | 35–60 min |
| Downtown to Balboa Park | 3 miles | 10–15 min | 20–35 min |
| La Jolla to Del Mar Racetrack | 11 miles | 16–22 min | 35–60 min |
How San Diego event work is priced
Event transfers are quoted per route, and event nights are usually better booked hourly. All of it is quoted per route and confirmed in writing before you travel, with no surge pricing at any hour.
For the largest convention weeks, book early. Every vehicle in the county is committed during those shows and a late request is a genuinely different proposition from an early one.
