San Diego arrivals

The airport is three miles from downtown, which is remarkable. Everything that takes time here involves heading north instead. San Diego International sits practically in the city, with two terminals and a run downtown that takes minutes rather than an hour. That makes this one of the most pleasant airports in the country to work. The length in any San Diego journey comes from going north — La Jolla, Del Mar, Carlsbad — or across the bridge to Coronado. We confirm the terminal against the flight number and meet inside arrivals.

Two terminals, one short roadway

Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 sit along a single roadway and are a short distance apart, which makes a mistake here far less costly than at most airports. We still check the terminal against the flight number on the day. The arrivals level is compact and genuinely workable.

  • Terminals 1 and 2
  • Compact roadway
  • Checked on the day

Meeting inside or at the kerb

Because the terminals here are small and the walk is short, a kerb collection works properly at San Diego in a way it does not at LAX or Miami. We will meet you inside with your name by default, and if you would rather come out to the vehicle that is a reasonable choice here rather than a bad one.

  • Kerb genuinely works
  • Named meet available

Cross-border arrivals and CBX

The Cross Border Xpress pedestrian bridge connects directly to Tijuana airport, and a meaningful amount of San Diego business travel arrives that way. We collect on the US side at the CBX terminal, which is a different address and a different journey from San Diego International entirely.

  • CBX
  • US-side collection
  • Separate address

Where the distance in San Diego actually is

North county is the real journey

La Jolla, Del Mar, Carlsbad and Rancho Santa Fe are where most of the length in a San Diego booking comes from, and the I-5 north carries a genuine commute. A Carlsbad transfer is not a local run and we quote it as the journey it is rather than as an airport hop with a surprise at the end.

  • North county
  • I-5 commute
  • Quoted as transfers

Coronado means the bridge

Everything to Coronado crosses the bridge, and the bridge is the trip when it backs up. There is no alternative routing worth the name other than a long drive round the bay through Imperial Beach. We plan departures from Coronado earlier than the mileage suggests.

  • Bridge-dependent
  • No real alternative
  • Earlier departures

From the San Diego airport across the county

Door to kerb, ordinary conditions. The downtown figures are genuinely that short; the north county ones are genuinely that long.

The length comes from heading north: the coastal corridor up to Carlsbad is a real drive, and the I-5 fills in both directions at predictable hours.

How San Diego airport transfers are priced

Every airport route is quoted per route and confirmed in writing before you travel, with no surge pricing at any hour. North county transfers are quoted as the distances they are.

For a Carlsbad or Rancho Santa Fe stay, McClellan-Palomar at Carlsbad is worth knowing about if you are flying privately — it removes most of the drive entirely.
