The San Diego fields
Montgomery-Gibbs and Carlsbad are the useful ones. Carlsbad in particular removes an hour of north county driving. San Diego private movement spreads across San Diego International, Montgomery-Gibbs in Kearny Mesa, McClellan-Palomar at Carlsbad and Gillespie Field to the east. The choice is genuinely consequential here: for a north county stay, arriving at Carlsbad rather than downtown removes thirty-plus miles of I-5. We work from the tail number and coordinate with the FBO directly.
San Diego International (SAN) private terminals
The FBO facilities here sit away from the passenger terminals but on a field that is genuinely close to the city, which makes it the shortest ground time available for a downtown or Coronado destination. A vehicle sent to a terminal address is in the wrong place, so we dispatch to the FBO by name.
Montgomery-Gibbs (MYF)
In Kearny Mesa, centrally placed in the county and a short run to La Jolla, Sorrento Valley and the Torrey Pines mesa. For a day of biotech meetings it is better positioned than the international airport and considerably quieter to operate from.
McClellan-Palomar (CRQ) and Gillespie (SEE)
Carlsbad is the field for north county — Carlsbad itself, Rancho Santa Fe, Del Mar and the golf resorts — and using it rather than San Diego removes the entire I-5 run. Gillespie Field sits east in El Cajon and serves the inland part of the county.

The marine layer along this coast delays arrivals at the coastal fields on mornings when conditions inland are clear, and Carlsbad in particular sits right in it. We track the actual movement rather than the filed time and plan early departures with that in mind rather than treating a delay as unexpected.

Crew transfers here recur and are set up as standing arrangements with agreed pickup points. A share of private movement also connects onward across the border or down into Baja, which needs documents and timing agreed in advance rather than arranged at the FBO desk.
