South Bay venues are spread across several cities rather than clustered, which mostly helps — event traffic disperses instead of concentrating. The exception is Levi’s Stadium, which on a full night fills the northern valley freeways in both directions. We stage clear of the venues, come forward on a call, and treat the big stadium nights as planned operations rather than bookings.
Conventions, arenas and venues. The arena and the stadium sit in different cities, and a Levi’s Stadium event affects the whole northern valley rather than downtown.
Culture, dining and the region. Coast and mountain work is close enough to be a half-day, and the city and wine country are both within reach.
San Jose Convention Center
Downtown San Jose
Downtown with hotels attached and its own parking, in a district that is quiet outside event times. Access is good by convention-centre standards and the halls are clearly separated. We confirm the hall and time pickups against the session rather than the clock.
SAP Center
Downtown San Jose
On the western edge of downtown with its own lots and light rail alongside, which takes a useful share of the crowd. One of the more manageable arenas to leave. We collect from an agreed point rather than the doors, which on a sell-out is still faster.
Levi’s Stadium
Santa Clara
In Santa Clara rather than San Jose, which surprises people who booked on the name. A full house fills the 101 and the 237 simultaneously and the departure is the worst part of the evening. We stage north of the venue and quote it as the journey it actually is.
California Theatre
Downtown San Jose
On First Street downtown, a restored house with a narrow frontage and no forecourt, letting out into an evening downtown that is otherwise fairly quiet. Easier than the equivalent venues in larger cities. We work from a side street a few steps away.
Santana Row
San Jose
A common venue for corporate dinners and private events, with the main row pedestrianised and vehicle access on the perimeter roads. Evening and weekend traffic fills the surrounding garages. We agree the perimeter point rather than attempting the row.
Shoreline Amphitheatre
Mountain View
In Mountain View beside the bay, with a single main approach and a very large lawn crowd leaving at once. Amphitheatre departures are among the slowest anywhere. We hold well clear and walk you out rather than sitting in the lot for forty minutes.
Winchester Mystery House
San Jose
On Winchester Boulevard opposite Santana Row, a visitor attraction that also hosts evening events. Its own car park handles ordinary traffic; evening events need an agreed pickup point because the surrounding road is busy and stopping is limited.
