The Boston fields

Hanscom sits out by Bedford, which is the wrong side of the city for downtown and exactly the right side for the 128 corridor. Hanscom Field carries the bulk of New England private traffic, with Norwood serving the south, Beverly the north and Logan taking private movements on a very busy field. The choice is really about which side of the city your business is on: for meetings along 128, Hanscom is the obvious answer and Logan is a mistake. We work from the tail number and coordinate with the FBO rather than a filed time.

Hanscom Field (BED)

North-west of the city near Bedford and the busiest private field in New England. Its position is the point: for anyone with meetings in Burlington, Waltham or Lexington it puts you on the doorstep, while downtown is a genuine drive. Several FBOs operate here and the FBO name is what a vehicle needs, not the airport name.

  • Busiest in New England
  • 128 corridor
  • FBO name required

Norwood (OWD) and Beverly (BVY)

Norwood sits south-west and suits the southern suburbs and anyone heading toward Providence; Beverly is on the North Shore and serves Gloucester, Manchester and the coast. Both are small, straightforward fields with simple access and neither is a sensible choice for a downtown meeting.

  • South and north
  • Simple access
  • Not for downtown

Logan private terminals

Private movements at Logan share one of the more constrained airfields in the country, which affects slots and ground movement rather than our access to you. The FBO facilities sit well away from the passenger terminals, so a vehicle sent to a terminal address is in the wrong place. For a downtown destination it is still the closest option by a wide margin.

  • Constrained airfield
  • Separate FBO access
  • Closest to downtown

Boston winter operations and crew

De-icing is part of the timeline

From December a slot time and a wheels-up time are different things, and the de-icing queue is invisible from the FBO lounge. We plan winter departures against the report time and keep the vehicle available rather than releasing it at the door, because a delay of an hour on a January evening is an ordinary occurrence here.

  • De-icing queues
  • Report-time planning
  • Vehicle held

Crew movements and the North Shore

Crew transfers here recur — the same operators rotating through Hanscom, the same hotels, the same early positioning runs. Those are set up as a standing arrangement with agreed pickup points and a named chauffeur, which in a New England winter is worth considerably more than it sounds.

  • Standing arrangements
  • Agreed pickup points
  • Named chauffeur

From the Boston private fields

Door to FBO, ordinary conditions. The gap between Hanscom-to-128 and Hanscom-to-downtown is the whole case for choosing the field by destination.

How Boston private aviation transfers are priced

FBO transfers are quoted per route and confirmed in writing before you travel, with no surge pricing at any hour. Waiting time is measured against the actual movement rather than a filed time, which through a New England winter is the difference between a fair invoice and an argument.

Tell us the field and the FBO when you book and we will confirm coverage before you travel. If your meetings are on 128, say so — Hanscom will serve you far better than Logan will.
