The Boston hotels we run to
Newbury and Boylston are congested at almost any hour. Several of these houses have a service side that works far better than the front. Boston’s executive hotels sit in Back Bay, the Financial District, the Seaport and across the river in Cambridge, and they differ enormously in how workable they are for a vehicle. The Seaport properties are the easiest pickups in the city and the closest to Logan; several Back Bay houses front onto roads where stopping is impractical and have a far better entrance round the side. We agree which door at booking rather than leaving it to the day.
These are the addresses people actually give a chauffeur in Boston. In a city whose streets predate the grid by two centuries, knowing where a vehicle can legally stop is most of the value.
Where visiting executives stay. Back Bay and the Seaport take most of the corporate traffic, with the Cambridge properties serving the university and biotech business across the river.
Four Seasons Boston
Back Bay
On Boylston facing the Public Garden, with a forecourt that works well and staff entirely used to chauffeured departures. Boylston itself is slow at almost any hour, so the timing matters more than the access here. A comfortable and predictable pickup.
Mandarin Oriental Boston
Back Bay
On Boylston within the Prudential complex, with its entrance set off the street and covered access from the building. Being inside the complex means the surrounding blocks fill during events at the Hynes next door, which is worth planning around.
The Langham Boston
Financial District
In the old Federal Reserve building on Post Office Square, one of the few Financial District addresses with a genuinely workable forecourt. The square itself is calm compared with the streets around it. Among the easier downtown pickups.
XV Beacon
Beacon Hill
On Beacon Street at the foot of Beacon Hill, small and discreet on a narrow street with limited stopping. The hotel manages arrivals closely, which it has to. We approach from the correct direction because reversing out of these streets is not an option.
The Newbury Boston
Back Bay
At the corner of Newbury and Arlington overlooking the Public Garden. Newbury is effectively impassable for a stopped vehicle through the afternoon and Arlington is the workable side. That distinction is the difference between a two-minute pickup and a ten-minute one.
Boston Harbor Hotel
Waterfront
On Rowes Wharf with its landmark arch and a proper covered drive. On the water, which puts it close to both the Financial District and the Seaport, and a short run to Logan. One of the best-organised arrivals in the city.
Raffles Boston
Back Bay
On Trinity Place, purpose-built with vehicle access designed in rather than retrofitted, which is rare in this city. Set back from the Back Bay congestion on a short street. Straightforward in a way that most Boston addresses are not.
The Eliot Hotel
Back Bay
On Commonwealth Avenue near Massachusetts Avenue, a busy junction where the mall in the middle of Comm Ave limits turning. The approach direction genuinely matters. Close to the Berklee and Symphony Hall blocks, so performance nights affect the surrounding streets.
Omni Parker House
Downtown Crossing
On School Street at Tremont, in the oldest part of the street plan where nothing runs straight and one-ways change direction. The entrance works; getting to it is the exercise. We plan the approach rather than following a mapping application into a turn that does not exist.
The Charles Hotel
Cambridge
In Harvard Square with a proper courtyard entrance, well away from the worst of the square’s traffic. The river crossing is the variable for anyone coming from the city. Well placed for Harvard, MIT and the Kendall biotech cluster.
From the Boston hotel districts to Logan
Door to kerb, ordinary conditions. The Seaport is the shortest and Cambridge the least predictable, because the latter crosses the river and the tunnel both.
| Hotel district | Approx. distance | Off-peak | Allow in peak |
|---|---|---|---|
| Seaport · to Logan | 3 miles | 10–15 min | 25–35 min |
| Financial District · to Logan | 4 miles | 12–20 min | 30–45 min |
| Back Bay · to Logan | 6 miles | 20–25 min | 35–55 min |
| Beacon Hill · to Logan | 5 miles | 15–22 min | 32–50 min |
| Cambridge · to Logan | 6 miles | 20–30 min | 40–55 min |
How Boston hotel transfers are priced
Hotel transfers are quoted per route and confirmed in writing before you travel, with no surge pricing at any hour. Hourly hire suits a day that starts and ends at the hotel with stops between, which in Cambridge and Longwood is usually the cheaper structure too.
In winter we start earlier from every one of these addresses, and that is built into the quoted pickup time rather than added as a surcharge on the morning.
