The Washington DC fields

Washington has the most restricted airspace in the country, and the field you can actually use is a shorter list than you would expect. Private movement around the capital is shaped by security rather than convenience. Dulles and Reagan National both take private traffic under their own conditions, Manassas handles a large share of the Virginia movement, and Montgomery County Airpark serves the Maryland side. The special flight rules around the city mean the practical choice is narrower than the map suggests. We work from the tail number and coordinate with the FBO directly.

Dulles (IAD) private terminals

The main private gateway for the region, with FBO facilities well away from the passenger terminals — a vehicle sent to the terminal address is in the wrong place entirely. Dulles handles the international private traffic and is the practical choice for anything arriving from outside the country.

  • Main private gateway
  • Separate FBO access
  • International arrivals

Reagan National (DCA)

Takes private movements under conditions that are tighter than anywhere else in the country, with specific gateway and screening requirements. When an operator can use it the ground-time advantage is enormous, because National is minutes from downtown. Whether it is available to you is a question for your operator rather than for us.

  • Tightest restrictions
  • Enormous time saving
  • Operator-dependent

Manassas (HEF) and Montgomery County (GAI)

Manassas is the busiest general-aviation field in Virginia and handles a large share of the movement that cannot or does not want to use National. Montgomery County Airpark serves the Maryland side and suits Bethesda, Rockville and the NIH corridor. Both are straightforward fields with simple access.

  • Busiest Virginia GA field
  • Maryland side
  • Simple access

Washington DC security, crews and timing

Secure-zone routing is planned, not improvised

A transfer from an FBO to an address inside a security perimeter is a different piece of work from an ordinary airport run, and the routing has to be agreed before the day. Where credentials or advance passenger details are required we ask for them at booking. Arriving at a checkpoint without them costs more time than any routing saves.

  • Perimeter routing
  • Advance details
  • Agreed beforehand

Crew movements and positioning

Crew transfers here are frequently recurring and frequently early, timed against a report time rather than a wheels-up. Standing arrangements with agreed pickup points and a named chauffeur work better than booking each one, particularly for operators rotating through Manassas and Dulles.

  • Report-time timing
  • Standing arrangements
  • Named chauffeur

From the Washington DC private fields

Door to FBO, ordinary conditions and no closures. The National figure is the reason operators fight for access to it.

How Washington DC private aviation transfers are priced

FBO transfers are quoted per route and confirmed in writing before you travel, with no surge pricing at any hour. Waiting time is measured against the actual movement rather than a filed time, so a slot that slips does not become a billing conversation.

Tell us the field and the FBO when you book and we will confirm coverage before you travel. If the destination sits inside a secure perimeter, tell us that too — it changes the routing and sometimes the vehicle.
