Booking in New Orleans

New Orleans airports
Louis Armstrong New Orleans International (MSY)
A single modern terminal opened a few years ago on the opposite side of the airfield from the old one, which still catches out drivers who have not been recently. It is compact and quick to clear, with a short walk to the kerb. The airport is in Kenner rather than New Orleans, and the fifteen miles into the CBD are the part visitors underestimate.

Private aviation
Lakefront Airport sits on Lake Pontchartrain minutes from the CBD and is by some distance the best private arrival for anyone whose business is in the city — the ground time is a fraction of MSY. MSY takes larger private movements on its own ramp. For private arrivals we work from the tail number and coordinate with the FBO directly. Tell us the field and the FBO when you book and we will confirm coverage before you travel.

Where we work in New Orleans
The French Quarter
We meet on the perimeter and walk you the short distance. Narrow one-way streets laid out long before motor vehicles, many of them closed to traffic entirely in the evening, with delivery restrictions and pedestrian volume that make a stopped car a genuine obstruction.
The Central Business District & Warehouse District
Far easier to work than the Quarter. The corporate core alongside the convention centre and the Superdome, with the Warehouse District carrying the newer hotel and restaurant business. Streets here are wider and forecourts workable, which makes the CBD far easier to operate in than the Quarter a few blocks away.
Garden District & Uptown
Plan the approach direction along St. Charles. St. Charles Avenue with the streetcar running down the middle, oak-lined and beautiful and genuinely awkward for a vehicle — the neutral ground limits turning and stopping. Both are comfortable districts to work if the approach direction is planned rather than discovered.
Conventions, festivals and Mardi Gras
The largest weeks are planned as operations. This city hosts events at a scale far beyond its size, and during the largest ones it is not a normal city at all.
Weather, and planning around it
Afternoon storms are routine, so routes have planned alternates. Summer afternoon storms are routine and the city floods in places that locals know and visitors do not. In hurricane season we will tell you plainly what is and is not possible rather than promising a time we cannot hold.
Typical journey times across New Orleans
MSY sits in Kenner, a genuine drive west of the city rather than on its edge, and the run in uses I-10 which carries the whole metropolitan commute.

Hotel transfers in New Orleans
The Monteleone and the Royal Sonesta are both on Royal Street in the Quarter, which is closed to vehicles for much of the day. We work from Canal or the river side and agree the point at booking rather than negotiating it at the kerb.
Events & venues in New Orleans
The Morial Convention Center is over a mile long with entrances numbered along its length, and they are a genuine walk apart. The hall number is the useful instruction, not the building name.
Frenchmen Street is the local alternative to Bourbon and equally impossible for a vehicle on a busy night. The River Road houses are a common half-day hire and better booked hourly than as a transfer.

Universities & campuses in New Orleans
Ochsner is in Jefferson Parish rather than the city and is a real drive from the Quarter, which surprises people who booked on the name. Tulane and Loyola sit side by side on St. Charles and share the same streetcar constraints.
