Davidson is a genuine drive north of the city. Quoting it as a local run is the usual mistake. Charlotte’s academic and medical work is steady rather than seasonal, with UNC Charlotte to the north-east, the smaller colleges around the city and Davidson a real distance north. The hospital campuses sit close to Uptown with their own access. Much of this recurs — visiting faculty, candidates and patients on schedules — and we set those up as standing arrangements where we can.

UNC Charlotte
University City
North-east of the city in University City, a large open campus with its own road network, proper parking and a light rail station. Straightforward to work. Home football and commencement weekends fill the surrounding approaches.
Davidson College
Davidson
Twenty miles north near Lake Norman, a small and handsome campus in a village setting. It is a genuine drive from the city and from the airport, and quoting it as a local run is the mistake people make. Commencement fills the village entirely.
Queens University of Charlotte
Myers Park
In Myers Park on residential streets, a compact campus with limited but workable vehicle access and mature trees along the approach. Close to Uptown and to SouthPark, which makes it an easy stop on a wider day.
Johnson C. Smith University
West Charlotte
Just west of Uptown, a historically Black university with a contained campus and straightforward access from the surrounding streets. Very close to the business district and a short run from the airport.
Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center
Dilworth
Just south of Uptown in Dilworth, a large teaching hospital and trauma centre with constrained access on the surrounding streets and a queue at shift change. We confirm which entrance the appointment requires rather than using the main one by default.
Novant Health Presbyterian
Elizabeth
In the Elizabeth neighbourhood east of Uptown, a substantial hospital campus with its own parking and clear internal signage. Easier to reach than Carolinas Medical Center and similarly close to the centre.
Levine Children’s Hospital
Dilworth
On the Carolinas Medical Center campus with a dedicated family entrance and a steady flow of families travelling with children and equipment from across the Carolinas. We ask about seating and equipment at booking rather than discovering it at the kerb.
