The Austin venues we run to
Austin is a festival city, and its event work is unlike anywhere else we operate. For weeks at a time the central street network is partly closed, venues operate at capacity and a booked pickup at a downtown address may simply not be possible. We plan those weeks from the closure maps rather than the traffic maps, agree points that will actually exist on the day, and say plainly when something will not work.
Conventions, arenas and venues. Austin’s venues are the reason the city periodically becomes a different place. The circuit sits well south-east and the festival grounds south-west, so event traffic pulls in opposite directions.
Culture, dining and the region. Evening work runs to the downtown restaurant rooms and the music venues, and the Hill Country is a steady day-hire destination.
Austin Convention Center
Downtown
In the middle of downtown, which means a major show pushes traffic through the whole central grid rather than around it. During SXSW it is the centre of a district-wide closure. We work from agreed points outside the perimeter and time against hall closing.
Moody Center
University of Texas
On the university campus, so an arena event and a campus day share the same approaches, and a home football Saturday makes both impossible. Modern access with proper capacity. We stage west of the campus rather than attempting the immediate approach.
Circuit of the Americas
South-east of Austin
A genuine drive south-east with a single access road that becomes the entire journey on a race weekend. Arriving late means not arriving at all. We stage vehicles early or advise against the timing, and we treat race weekends as planned operations rather than bookings.
ACL Live at the Moody Theater
Second Street
In the Second Street district attached to the W, a mid-sized room whose audience leaves at once into streets already busy with downtown evening traffic. Lavaca and Second both fill. We work from a block west and come forward on a call.
Q2 Stadium
North Austin
North of the city near The Domain, with proper parking and freeway access, which makes it far easier to leave than the downtown venues. Match nights fill the northern approaches but the site itself is workable. We collect from an agreed lot.
Zilker Park and Austin City Limits
Zilker
ACL takes over Zilker Park for two long weekends each autumn, closing the surrounding roads and moving very large numbers on foot. Vehicle access near the park effectively ends. We work from agreed points well outside and walk you in, which is the only method that functions.
Long Center
South of the river
On the south bank overlooking downtown, with its own approach and parking, and a departure that is straightforward compared with the downtown venues. Lakefront events and race days for the trail affect the approach rather than the venue.
Stubb’s
Red River
On Red River in the middle of the live music district, a venue with no forecourt at all in a street that is closed to vehicles on many evenings. This is a walk-to-the-car situation by design and we agree the point in advance rather than negotiating it at closing time.
Getting to the Austin venues
Door to venue, ordinary conditions. The right-hand column means an event night; SXSW and ACL are planned separately because a range would be misleading.
| Route | Approx. distance | Off-peak | Allow on an event night |
|---|---|---|---|
| Downtown to the Convention Center | 1 mile | 5–10 min | 20–45 min |
| Downtown to the Moody Center | 2 miles | 8–14 min | 30–55 min |
| Downtown to Circuit of the Americas | 12 miles | 18–25 min | 60–150 min |
| Downtown to Q2 Stadium | 11 miles | 16–24 min | 35–60 min |
| Downtown to Zilker Park | 3 miles | 10–15 min | 35–70 min |
How Austin event work is priced
Event transfers are quoted per route, and festival and race days are almost always better booked hourly. All of it is quoted per route and confirmed in writing before you travel, with no surge pricing at any hour, which through SXSW and ACL is the clearest difference between us and the alternatives.
For the big weeks, book as far ahead as you can. Every vehicle in this city is committed during SXSW, ACL and race weekend, and a late request is a genuinely different proposition from an early one.
